The therapists at North Woods Christian Counseling are committed to delivering competent and sensitive care, meeting each client where they are at in their process of healing. They frequently counsel families after divorce, working to solve problems, improve communication, and repair emotional intimacy.

Our therapists have master’s level training in Marriage and Family Therapy. This means they work from a family systems perspective, striving to understand the complex patterns within families and help them become stronger.  We recognize that issues around divorce, remarriage, and blending families can be challenging for all involved. For children, these events can stir up feelings of hurt and helplessness, making relationships difficult. This, in turn, can create similar feelings for the parents involved, as well. We know that every family is different, and will work closely with you to develop a plan that is right for your unique situation. This might include a combination of an individual family, parent coaching, and family therapy.

With individual therapy, we can work with you, your spouse, and your children to process the difficult emotions and memories connected to divorce and remarriage. It’s not uncommon for feelings of guilt, helplessness, and resentment to be part of the process, and individual therapy can help bring hope and healing to the family.

Marriage Counseling can help a couple improve communication and work through the challenges of blended families and dealing with exes. Issues of child support, alimony, and custody can be serious stressors to a marriage. Often, parents find themselves struggling to maintain a good relationship with their children, and their spouses feel like they come in second. We often help couples find ways to heal from insecurities around parenting and establish the priority of the married relationship.

Family Counseling can be a way to break unhealthy patterns in the family, gain new insights, and give everyone in the family the opportunity to express what’s bottled up inside and have a voice. This can be very healing for a family and often names the “off limits” topics that everyone is aware of anyway. The process can be emotional and challenging, but it can also be incredibly healing and lead to breakthroughs in the relationships we value most.
