Support Your Child Through Anxiety or Depression

White Bear Lake, MN / Duluth, MN / Online for all Minnesota

Are you concerned about your child? Do they seem worried? Are they avoiding things? Or, do they seem sad or withdrawn? Anxiety and depression can appear differently in kids, but if you suspect something’s not right, it never hurts to trust your gut and reach out for support. With Master’s degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy, we have experience working with kids, parents, and entire families. We know that sometimes the “problem” isn’t in the person, but in the patterns and relationships within a family. Without judgment, we strive to support and empower parents to help their children heal.

Therapy for Your Child

Our therapists can provide therapy for your child, helping them to work through their anxiety and depression. With God’s help, we’ll get to the root cause of what’s going on. We understand that children process things differently than adults, and so we don’t limit ourselves to “talk therapy.” We can also incorporate play, artwork, games, and even EMDR therapy for trauma. While we help your child to work through their emotions, we also hope to work closely with you.

Coaching and Support for You

We could all use a good coach. The best coaches are those that recognize the talents within their clients, and help bring out the best in them. We understand that parenting today can be very challenging. Our children face unique pressures and temptations today, and knowing how best to love them is not always clear. Some parents struggle to know whether they’re being to harsh, or too soft on their kids. Others are challenged by finding the right balance between structure and independence for their children. Most of our therapists are parents ourselves, and we’ve experienced firsthand how just when we think we’ve figured it out, things change. As our children grow and enter new phases of development, we need to adjust. What worked in the past won’t always work in the future, and it’s easy to fall into being reactive rather than proactive.

With our background in Marriage and Family Therapy, we’re specifically trained to understand relationships, and the unique patterns that develop within families. We have deep respect for those who seek parent coaching, because we know it takes both love and humility to do so… love that says “I won’t settle for the status quo,” and humility that says “I don’t have it all figured out” (none of us do… we’re human!). We understand that even the best parents can benefit from a fresh set of eyes. If asked we’re happy to give advice, sharing any insights we think could help you in your parenting. However, we’ve also found that just having a safe place to process the challenges of life helps many parents identify these answers themselves. We know that each parent, child, and relationship is unique, and we will ask questions designed to better understand your situation. We’ll then work with you to develop reasonable goals and an overall plan you can feel hopeful about.
